Long time no see

Wow so it has almost been a whole year, Although i do not have any followers I see some people have checked out the page and I am hoping to at least have a post with pictures summarizing what I have been doing in the 40k world in all these months that have passed.

Just so you know I have not given up on 40k at all. If anything I kicked it into overdrive. I have acquired plenty of stuff either new and used and actually just started doing commissions. I did not plan on getting into it that quick but people like my work and I am proud of it. I will try and get some pics up and further explain whats been going on and stay tuned for some cool stuff. Also I still play my custom successor chapter to the Blood Angels so no love is lost there.

Stay tuned...

Cheap Terrain for my bases

Since I am new at this and try to save money where I can I decided to try and find a cheaper alternative to buying hobby sand which is quite expensive. So I went to Michael's and looked for some things since I didn't find them the first time.

I found these 2 pound bags of coarse sand in the dry flowers section which is pretty big. I got some colors that I wanted my homeworlds terrain to look like. Its sort of a savanna plains world with high grass and a reddish sand. So I bought a bag of terracotta and tan color planning to mix and match. I think I got each bag for 3 dollars, pretty good in my opinion.

So I based some of my AORB tactical troops from my box set and I liked how it looked, I asked some of my new friends and they recommended a painted base compared to the "natural" color of the sand after the model is primered, I'll probably try both but I did the basing before the primer for now.

First coat of black primer (did three coats, two on top of box)

So I did not do so bad with this batch of primering, the only problem was reaching the undersides of the model. I ended up putting  on a glove and moving the model around accordingly and doing quick sprays. Then just spray where I was holding it to match the rest, worked pretty well but needed to come up with something better.

Space Marine Promo Poster

So I bought a Promo poster from the new Space Marine video game, love the game and love the pose on the poster. Plus it shows all the goodies that people could get from various places for in game content.

Also received a 9 man squad of AORB tactical marines, I am buying some of these to just practice different painting techniques to see what I like best at the moment and also as practice since they are so cheap compared to the multi-part models. Since I wont be running tactical marines in my army in the future. They will be used for now.

Prepping models before primer

So I would like to share some tips for how to prep your models to get the best results when painting. I found this while searching and thought it sounded useful. So basically you would wash the bits before primering. You  let them soak in warm water for 3 to five minutes with soap. Then you make sure the soap is off the model and let them cool in cool water for like 5 minutes. After than just lay them out till they dry around fifteen minutes.

The person said the reason you should wash them is due to the fact that aid they use a special oil that helps to prevent the models from sticking to the molds. So this may prevent paint from sticking so well sometimes. People that really don't care for their paint jobs don't have to do it but to me it doesn't hurt so I just do it.

I also got some cards for a 40k card game tat was created years back and I got them real cheap so I wanted to pick them up for the art on the cards.

More tools for miniature building

So when I bought AOBR and some other things, the store sadly did not have any Plastic Clippers so I had to wait till later in the week to get them. I also decided to pic up a couple of other things since I like to be prepared and was doing my research on the net for what I could use. So far the initial cost to start in this is a lot but it is a hobby and pretty awesome so far. I went to my local Hobby store and then Michael's for some other things

Things I bought:

-Citadel Plastic Clippers, Drill, Greenstuff, Spray Primer Chaos Black, 40K Basing Kit
-Gale Force Nine Modeling Files (best thing I use)
-Testors Plastic glue, caps, brushes
-Elmers Glue (for bases) and a sponge brush (random)

Space Marine for XBOX 360

September 8, 2011

SO I finally got my copy of the collector's edition of Space Marine for the Xbox 360. Had to wait till Thursday for it to arrive but it was worth the wait. What a big box man but the attention to detail was awesome. Even though I wish they would have included some more things for the price, especially some extra goodies in game its ok I guess. Here are some pics of the box
